Review of Manic (2002) by Gurnles G — 01 Feb 2008
The concept of "Manic" is a very interesting one, and it shows early sings of what kind of an actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt could become. He plays a young man with obvious anger issues he believes are justified by the reception party deserving the blunt end of his anger - and you begin to feel for his point of view as it develops. You hate and love the people he comes in to contact with.
His character s slim but he manages to do a lot more with it than the script seems to give. His performance is shades, but certainly not what we would come to expect of Levitt.
Manic, is certainly a way to describe the way this film was captured. Rupturing camera work and obvious improvisation throughout, which mostly did not translate into a solid transition from scene to scene.
Did have a beautiful score, though.
