Review of Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence (1992) by Tim S — 01 Jan 2014
As with the last film, Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence picks up where its previous entry left off. Again, a little time has passed, but not really that much. Just enough for people to forget about the maniacal policeman so he can go on his homicidal rampage once again.
This time around, we're treated to a Bride of Frankenstein-type situation. A female officer is gunned down and framed as a heartless and careless cop while she lies in a coma. Cordell, the Maniac Cop, learns of this and attempts to set things straight for her and take her as his bride via a creepy shaman.
Robert Davi returns to the lead, and actually has a little more to do this time around. Robert Z'Dar also returns, and keep watch for small roles by Jackie Earle Haley and Frank Pesce, as well as a cameo by Ted Raimi.
The film is infamous for having a lot of problems behind the scenes, with original director William Lustig walking out in the middle of production, but the film still has some merit to it. It's not terrible, but just by putting the films up in a line-up and judging them one by one, it's definitely the least of the two sequels.
I'd still recommend it though.
