Review of Maniac Cop 2 (1990) by Jeffrey L — 30 Apr 2008
Even though this flick finally sports the famous Maniac Cop theme I've been waiting to hear, it's really not that good of a movie. After you get the flashbacks from the last movie, the cookie-cutter rip-off characters that are just there to directly replace the main characters from the first movie, and all the rip-off scenes (I swear half of this flick was nothing but updated versions of scenes from the last flick), there is MAYBE 5% new, original material for the flick. Of that new material though, are a couple really cool deaths I did not see coming at all, a pretty decent assault on a high-security prison, although I hated the mania cop teaming up with a serial killer and a band of escaped convicts.
The deaths scenes also aren't nearly as good or bloody as the ones in the first movie, and those ones weren't even THAT good or bloody to begin with.
So to sum up, a couple decent ideas are mixed in with rip-off characters, multiple flashback scenes of footage from the first movie, and out and out rip-off scenes.
