Review of Maniac (2012) by Eric H — 05 Jun 2013
This movie took me by surprise. I haven't seen the 1980 original, so I can not compare. But after seeing this I will see it. I do like Alexandre Aja movies, and this one was directed by Franck Khalfoun (of 'High Tension' fame), and I have to say this was very well done.
The "first person" perspective was genius. I've always thought that there should be a horror film using this technique, and this gave you the perspective of the killer, through his eyes.
I also have to say that Elijah Wood was great as the psychotic serial killer, something I thought I'd never say. As for the violence, LOVED it. I was watching this with my girlfriend and there were certain scenes that she had to turn away, and she can normally watch violent horror films without cringing.
After seeing this film, it is one that I could quite easily see again.
