Review of Maniac (2012) by Jolyon S — 27 Jul 2013
A monumental piece of film making that will not be to everyone's taste and should probably be avoided by most people despite everything that it has going for it.
Too easily written off as a "slasher" flick, this has none of the trite, self-mocking qualities of the genre - everyone is playing the whole thing entirely straight, and that is perhaps one of the most disturbing aspects of the film, since you experience it almost entirely from the first person perspective of Franky, the serial killer portrayed with incredible control by Elijah Wood.
I can't rate it highly enough, but neither can I warn you strongly enough.
