Review of Maniac (2012) by Julia P — 06 Aug 2013
Maniac is a film I had seen little footage for so I didn't no what to expect and what I got is a film about a mentally disturbed young man who scalps his victims and let me just say it has been a long time since a film has made me feel anywhere close to being queasy because every scalping scene didn't hold back and were so brutal.
I also loved the 1st person POV it works brilliantly with this film and puts even more into the character of Frank Zito who is to my surprise portrayed by Elijah Wood and he does a better job as a serial killer than I expected.
But there are some scenes that show Frank's delusions and they do at time feel to forced and out of place. I can't say I would recommend this to anyone mainly because how violent it is but if you can get past that I can say that you can see that this is kind of a tragic story and has an amazing score.
