Review of Maniac (2012) by Alan L — 24 Oct 2014
Gripping and bleak serial killer thriller featuring an unsettling, against-type Elijah Wood as Frank, who has the rather gruesome M.O. of scalping his victims before stapling their hair to his restored antique mannequins.
The U.S.P. here, along with an eerie, 80s-style electronic score, is the fact that most of the action is viewed first-person, with the camera literally putting the viewer inside Frank's head, forcing us to experience each brutal atrocity he commits in unflinching detail.
