Review of Maniac (1980) by Justin E — 07 Jan 2010
A personal fav..and it's also the film that got me into extreme horror. stumbled upon this one at the age of 13, in some dingy mom and pop video store. gloriously lurid poster art, but that was only a fracion of what I was in for.
the scenes of graphic carnage that ensued are forever etched into my brain. a repressed momma's boy who was severely abused throughout his childhood goes on a killing spree on the streets of new york.
His vicims? any female that reminds him of his mother. After each brutal murder he scalps the victims and takes the trophy home to nail onto his collection of mannequins. Joe Spinell's acting is flawless.
