Review of Maniac (1980) by Simon B — 11 Jan 2010
(3 stars out of 5) This Joe Spinell vehicle as a isolated loner who is torchered by the voices in his head is driven to murder beautiful women because his mother locked him in the closet when she was out prostituting herself.
He nails creepy (and their scalps to mannequins in his apartment). The gore is 80's chic with lots of blood at the hands of horror master Tom Savini (who even has a cameo blowing his own head off with a shotgun).
Worth a look for horror fans but don't expect Silence of the Lambs.
