Review of Manhunter (1986) by Curt F — 07 Mar 2009
This is definitely worth watching. My only problem is how I constantly was distracted by three different thoughts. This movie was the original Red Dragon and came out before Silence of the Lambs and featured the first and only Hannibal Lecter not played by Anthony Hopkins. The director was Michael Mann and the movie had a real Miami Vice feel with the clothing, the music, and the style. The FBI Agent was played by William Petersen who was a specialist in solving crimes, including crime scene investigation. I found myself constantly thinking of the later Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragons movie, the show CSI of which Petersen starred in, and the show Miami Vice. These thoughts were with me every moment of the movie, I could not get rid of them. In many ways this reduced my enjoyment of it and made it difficult to fully appreciate what it is, a special movie that people should see if they get a chance.
It is very interesting to see the Lecter story told by a totally different world of people.
