Review of Manhunter (1986) by Jarkko T — 01 Sep 2010
All through his career, Michael Mann has been a rare aesthetician, and boy does that visual grace shine through nearly every shot in here, as well. I don't want to compare this with the later Lecter films, as that's not really the point, but overall Manhunter's strong and dark with all kinds of good things going for it.
There's some waste length-wise, as is usual for Mann, but not too much by any means. And Petersen's presence reminds me of To Live and Die in L.A. -- another stunner I would consider a close relation.
