Manhunter for me is a disappointment on some sorts. This is actually the last Hannibal film of the series that I have watched and my take on it is that it is fairly good.

As some of the reviews I have read about this is that there is little tension and Hannibal in this film does not provide much suspense and I see this as correct. Brian Cox does not have the same haunting presence as Anthony Hopkins has in Silence which made the viewer glued to the screen. Hannibal in Manhunter is okay, but feels a little flat. William L. Petersen is good as Will Graham but prefer Edward Norton slightly more in the remake Red Dragon. I think my biggest problems with this film is the lack of tension in parts as well as the film is made in extreme 80's style, the music, the action drama, which makes the film not hold up that well. And the film's cutting on the climatic scene, it was weird with quick cuts and slow motion and didn't care for it. Michael Mann shot this film as if it were an action film, which I don't think it was the right approach for this story.

Other than this the film had great cinematography and the acting was fairly well done. I recommend as a possibility of checking it out, but there is only one true Hannibal film and that is Silence of the Lambs.
