Review of Manhunter (1986) by Thomas S — 02 Mar 2008
In a sense you can compare this to silence of the lambs, regardless of what has previously been said. Both films are character studies, SOTL being about clarice and this about william. Both films require their specific mindsets to figure out where the creepiest people ever live.
The tooth fairy is much creepier than Buffalo Bill but they have both have seperate fetishes that equal out. The thing I will say is that there was not enough Lecter in the film.
Perhaps if I did not see SOTL before manhunter, I would not care half as much but I did so it did bother me a tad but the character study of William is much more interesting than Clarice, being that he has a serial killers common sense.
This movie dug further under my skin than the other Hannibal films, and it had a better ending than SOTL. I will watch the remake eventually, but until then...
