Review of Manhunter (1986) by Breanne B — 11 Sep 2008
On the box of the DVD it says "superior to The Silence of the Lambs." I beg to differ. 'Silence' was far better and much more tense than this one...so was 'Red Dragon' (and THAT was directed by Brett Ratner).
'Dragon' gets a lot more use out of its characters, while 'Manhunter' focuses more on Will and the Tooth Fairy. Lecter gets limited screen time, which is unfortunate because Brian Cox is such a fantastic actor--it would've been great to see more.
'Manhunter' also suffers from a dated 80s score and some horrible songs that are supposed to "bring out" character emotion...in the longrun, it's all really quite cheesy.
