Review of Manhunter (1986) by Kiran E — 17 May 2009
A brilliant film. Far better than the later Red Dragon and easily rivals Silence of the Lambs. Excellent direction from Mann, one of the most stylish directors around.
Brian Cox is much more subtle than Hopkins and is scary in his own right. Joan Allen is excellent in her small role, far better in the role than the overwrought Emily Watson in Red Dragon.
The tension, suspense and fear is developed brilliantly through Mann's direction.
The film does look a bit dated in ways but it does remain an excellent film.
