Review of Manhunter (1986) by Scott M — 26 Jun 2009
Today's Mann movie was Manhunter. A brilliant movie that is overshadowed by silence of the lambs. this movie goes to show you that the same kind of story can be interpreted two different ways. Silence and Red Dragon were more like horror films.
were this is more like a neo-noir film. this, like many Mann movies is more of character study. this movie you really get the sense of danger of being a investigator. not the physical danger, but the mental danger.
and the creepiness of the story is given to you in a very realistic manner. Mann doesn't force feed you, he trusts the audience. I haven't seen a movie of his I haven't liked.
