Review of Manhunter (1986) by Paul B — 13 Dec 2009
No matter what you say, still hugely superior to the later hollywood-ised Red Dragon adaptation (no surprise in the hands of Brett Ratner). While Michael Mann's film making style is not entirely suited to the genre, there is constant tense atmosphere and the film is well carried by Petersen (putting in a nice template for his Grissom performance) and Noonan, who captures a difficult character well.
The overall result is a smart, if grim adaptation of yet another Thomas Harris' ridiculously long novels - and most importantly not taken over by Hannibal Lecter, who only had a minor role in the book.
