Review of Manhunter (1986) by Peter B — 20 Jun 2010
I have a similar problem reviewing this as I did with infernal affairs. This and that came first. But I saw the remakes - red dragon and the departed - first. In both the stories are pretty much the same.
So obviously I am not taken in as much as I would be if I didnt know what was gunna happen. I therefore can only really review based on how its done. The story is dark and gripping but disturbing without a doubt.
Its directed by michael mann so it looks brilyant, use of colour really adds to the tension-especially the blue tinged night shots. But I have to admit to preferring red dragon, I like norton and prefer hopkins plus fiennes is chilling in it.
Maybe if I had seen this first I wouldnt prefer red dragon, but I did so I do. Still-creepy and unsettling this certainly is and its directed by a master of cinema.
