Review of Manhunter (1986) by Bradley K — 06 Dec 2012
The unfairly forgotten first entry in the famed Hannibal Lector series still stands as the most interesting, edging out even the mighty Silence of the Lambs. The distinctly stylized look of the film (a Michael Mann hallmark) lends and excellent atmosphere to the picture, and the cast turns in stellar performances across the board.
Special note must be given to Brian Cox, whose performance as everyone's favorite deranged killer ("Lecktor," in this film) bears a controlled, yet horrifying menace that Hopkins' psychotic performance didn't quite achieve.
I would recommend this film to any fan of CSI, the Lector series, or fans of thrillers in general.
