Review of Manhattan Melodrama (1934) by Allan C — 02 Apr 2013
This is the film that John Dillinger watched right before he was gunned down by FBI agents outside the Biograph Theater. That aside, this is an excellent retelling of the oft told tale of childhood friends ending up on opposite side of the law.
William Powell is the new District Attorney and his childhood pal, Blackie, played by Clark Gable, is the local crime boss. Thrown in Myrna Loy as the romantic interest caught between the two and the director of the original "The Thin Man" and you've got a snappy and highly enjoyable film.
Well worth watching for classic film fans and a must see for Loy and Powell fans.
