Review of Manhattan (1979) by Daren F — 09 Sep 2008
A movie of brilliant intelligence (redundant?) and with another magnificent script by Woody Allen (and another great performance). The movie is like John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band in that Plastic Ono is the most depressing life afirming album ever created (and wow is it depressing but yet it makes you want to fight for life and simply youself) and Manhattan is the funniest movie about loss.
The movie ends with no one really happy because they could not see what they wanted and then when they fucked it up they tried to go back and lost it all. However, isn't that cliche right when it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all? Well actually do these people even love each other or are they just in love with the idea of being in loving with this type of person? Who knows all I know is that I loved every minute of it and cannot wait to see it again.
