Review of Manhattan (1979) by Bomb C — 07 Nov 2009
I was deciding whether or not I enjoy Woody Allen films, after seeing only a few (Match Point, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Whatever It Takes). With good reason of course, too much talking, love story overload, I was unsure.
So, Manhattan was the deal breaker for me. Absolutely enjoyed it. From the storyline, to Allen's quirky verbose neurotic ways, to the attention to lighting in the black & white film; it was, enjoyable.
There were about 3-4 breaks where the characters did not speak continuously, instead, montages to pass time were inserted along with the score of Gershwin, accompanied by the backdrop of New York (1979).
I dealt with it, without a peep of disgust. It was shot well and the characters had me glued. Might have to be my fav from him thus far.
