Review of Manhattan (1979) by Rob L — 14 Sep 2012
As close to perfection in film-making as has been or may ever be achieved. Allen's love-letter to NYC runs the gamut of intellectual tennis, taking us through love, loss, death, faith, Fellini, Bergman, and other mysteries of Woody's universe.
The breathtaking black and white cinematography plays in the shadows as Gershwin soars on the soundtrack, while the audience sits mesmerized and taken in by true cinema. Astonishing.
