Review of Manglehorn (2015) by Mike H — 18 Jun 2015
I really don't understand the movie critics sometimes. Maybe you all are just too young and too successful to appreciate this poignant slice of life movie that talks about these things: the poverty of the middle class in America; growing old and the rather shut down broken lethargy of the broken hearted; the utter loneliness and despair of so many single people who just get by month to month on their pittance salaries in the ordinary disappointing lives; of the illusions and delusions formed to survive it; of the incredible decline of civilization which has, largely through technologies of internet and computer, completely destroyed the fabric of community leaving most of us feeling so separate that the idea of any real authentic deep connection is left as unrequited and buried inner longing.
That is what this sensitive nuanced film is about. Beautiful story, full of endless metaphor for this state so many of us subsist in rather than truly living.
