Review of Mandy (2018) by Steve L — 23 Sep 2018
I thought this movie was fantastic. Firstly, huge points for the opening song Starless by King Crimson. My favorite thing about this movie is how sensual it was. It really took me in and made me feel, mostly due to an exceptional soundtrack and the shots.
It felt like every shot was a beautiful painting that really gave a ton of depth. This movie is more focused on the experience than a deep plot, which I was totally fine with. I love weird movies and man was this weird.
It was so weird, Nick Cage actually seemed normal in it. In all his movies hes so out of place as that crazy guy with a case of the rage, but its almost like this movie was written for him. The soundtrack was absolutely perfect.
I loved how the music was high in the mix and really helped with the atmosphere. It if could critique this movie in any way, I'd say it was a bit anti climatic. I wish there was a bigger or ending, but I loved it so much I didn't mind.
10/10 will see again.
