Review of Manderlay (2005) by Jonathan S — 17 Jul 2009
Though it may not be quite as poignant or excruciating to witness as "Dogville" this sequel proves that if anybody knows how to be equal parts provocative, daring, discomforting, and original it's Von Trier.
Stylistically it's (once again) not something that may appeal to the general dramatic audience, but due to the incredibly crafted writing and great performances I couldn't pull away from it if I tried.
It may be a little heavy-handed, but when dealing with the subjects surrounding racism it's sometimes hard to get around.
