Review of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) by Ziyi P — 26 Dec 2013
A serviceable film that focuses on Mandela's life rising from the trenchs of the civil rights movement in the 40's/50's to his appointment as President of South Africa. Idris Elba, despite not looking a great deal like Mandela, camptures the candence of his voice perfectly as well as the passion for his cause.
Where the film sort of looses some points with me that it seems to hit the benchmarks of his life like perfuntory bullet points as opposed to engrossing moments that rise above standard story telling as if a history channel project instead of feature project.
Going to benefit from foot traffic coninciding from his recent passing but otherwise not quite the timeless version of the man he deserves. Just ok.
