Review of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) by Steve W — 09 Jan 2014
Idris Elba is fantastic in the title role, and so is Naomie Harris as his wife. I'm glad the actors portraying the antagonists were not famous, giving the film more realism. Despite the excellent performances, the movie tries to do too much, trying to fit in Mandela's entire career in one 2.
5 hour movie. The plot jumps forward in time a lot and seems distracted, and drags on a lot in places. Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is an undemanding biopic and tribute to one of the most extraordinary figures in human history.
