Review of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) by Kj P — 10 Jan 2014
Boring and over-produced, "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" may be one of the hardest films to sit through that I have ever seen, solely due to it's dragged out run time, and because it really doesn't do anything or show anything that we don't know about this man's life.
Sure it's well shot and Idris Elba nails his performance, but when they shove his look down your throat, make you feel like this man truly impacted the world (which he did beautifully), it seems like you can't see that for yourself and the filmmakers are forcing this film upon you to see it.
This was one of the most unpleasant films of 2013 that I watched. Idris Elba definitely deserves his nominations, but that is really all this films deserves credit for. I am very disappointed.
