Review of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) by Martin C — 12 Jan 2014
While I did enjoy this film, you are left feeling that it is a missed opportunity - the film floundering by having too much story. At a time when the likes of The Hobbit into what amounts to three films, each nearly 3 hours in length, it is a great shame that such an important story is squashed into just one film.
It's a shame that they couldn't have done a simple Pt1 and Pt2 as was done so well with Che a few years ago. Especially so with two great leads in Idris Elba and Naomie Harris, who put in great performance and add much needed emotional depth to a story, that at times appears to be a rushed history lesson, rather than the depiction of a great man and historic struggle.
