Review of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) by Dave C — 12 Feb 2014
This has had some distinctly poor reviews and I don't think it deserves them at all.
It is very much a film about the man rather than the politician and in fact through the second half it is clearly more Winnie than Nelson who is being radicalised by state violence.
Nelson is never made to look like a saint and although certain machinations of the ANC are skimmed over, the limitations of a film already 2 1/2 hours long never seems too long.
Far from perfect but really worth seeing.
I got the impression there is a lot more footage that has been cut out.
