Review of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) by Ethan H — 17 Feb 2014
Being released at the right time when Mandela is still in the minds of the public helps catapult the movie into thought-provoking territory. You really have no idea what life was like for the African visionary, quite extraordinary in fact.
At almost 2 and a half hours long, it somehow still feels a bit rushed and I believe that the movie could have benefited from a longer duration. The biopic could have span a few movies and still not tell the entire story that Mandela is more than due.
There were times when Elba and Harris' imitation accents became annoyingly comical but most of the time did not detract too much from the main action. The movie respects the memory of Mandela and showcases it to the best of Chadwick's ability.
