Review of Manchester by the Sea (2016) by Debbie J — 22 Feb 2017
The acting was really good, the storyline was raw and real and authentic-however-most of the time I watch a movie to escape some of the sorrows, stress and pains of life-this movie depressed the hell out of me.
Nothing at all good or happy came out of it-just a very sad teenager who it seems his Uncle is too selfish to get over his own grief and be there for him, and Lee himself just wallowing in grief (for God's sake go see a counselor and at least try to move on with life).
Of all the movies I have seen in my life (and it's in the 1,000's) I hated this ending the most. I would have LOVED it if there would have been some healing and happiness. There's nothing wrong with offering people a message of hope instead of this bleak film that had NONE.
