Review of Manchester by the Sea (2016) by Movie G — 20 Jan 2018
This is easily the most overrated movie of 2016. It's relentlessly bleak, idiotic, even absurd. A caring father decides to make his brother the guardian of his child, without ever asking his brother about it.
This basically sums up the seriousness of the entire movie. None of the characters are likable, the themes are carelessly handled, most of the subplots ultimately turn up empty. All of this is wrapped under the guise of a movie that is somehow important.
It's not. It's "Rocky" if Rocky punched himself in the face for two hours and then decided he wont fight Apollo Creed after all. That it takes place in and around Boston is supposed to give it some gritty feel.
.. or something. Of course the critics loved it.
