Few--thank God--have rowed the boat this protagonistt rows. The portrayal is pitch perfect, even if the sound is that of a howl beyond comprehension for most people. That the teen nephew suddenly gets a whiff of understanding upon seeing his struggling uncle's tenderly cared for photographs offers insigh.
