Review of Manchester by the Sea (2016) by Keanex — 19 Feb 2020
I felt a great variety of emotions when watching this movie. I laughed at times, felt hopeful at times, and cried a few times. The emotionally stunted Casey Affleck plays a tremendous role of a father who can not get over a heinous mistake which caused the death of his children and leading to his divorce.
Years later he finds himself in a position to take guardianship over his nephew after his brother passes. Acting by all is incredible, especially the scene where Michelle Williams and Casey Affleck meet and she has her new child with her.
The muted tones of the north east USA fits the somber mood of the film extremely well. The choice for it the actors to have heavy Boston accents and carry the "tough guy" Boston mentality makes the softening of Casey Affleck even more heartbreaking.
This is a fantastic movie of two men figuring out a tough time together.
