Review of Manchester by the Sea (2016) by Darren B — 25 Feb 2017
Here's a simple film about loss, demons, coming of age, and the importance of family. It was not all depressing nor did it feel like it slow at all. Instead it Cassie Affleck delivers a solid, amazing raw performance worthy of an Oscar. His nephew (not sure who played him) was also very good. The two had a believable dynamic that felt real. Even their conversations. Michelle Willams (Dawsons Creek alumni) gave one heck of an emotional punch.
There's something to be said about films like these that manage to grab your attention. The human element is amazing study for film. The director successfully captured it.
Strongly Recommended.
