Review of Manchester by the Sea (2016) by Alessandro F — 17 Feb 2017
'Manchester by the Sea' is anchored by strong performances by Williams, Hedges and Affleck, who creates an apathetic man with nothing left to lose, and isn't afraid to take risks and avoid clichès and happy endings.
Still, the movie came off as a bit too slow-paced (and it's not that I don't like movies that take their time), and at times too emotionally distant: I get that it's supposed to be a minimalistic movie, but I think that it lacks the punch it needed to become much better, and at the end of two long hours I was left without the emotional reward I was expecting.
