Review of Management (2009) by Maegan S — 11 Oct 2009
My third Woody Harrelson movie of the week (after seeing Zombieland and Transsiberian), so his career is either making a comeback or it's just a coincidence. You can still see him in new straight-to-video movies that play on HBO all the time.
But he only has a small part on this, so enough about him. The reason to watch this movie is the great Steve Zahn, who really humanizes his characters and doesn't steer this into a crazy stalker film.
It's not even a chick flick, thank god, because it's all about him. Zahn plays a lonely hotel manager living in dead-end town Kingman, Arizona, where there is nothing to do and probably not any good women to choose from.
When he meets a traveling art saleswoman, played by Jennifer Anniston (who is in real-life relationship POISON), he annoys her like a lost puppy dog until she finally sleeps with him. Big mistake, since he follows her cross-country to where she lives in Baltimore, Maryland.
But it's not really creepy since he comes off as real sweet and she comes off as a total bitch. They kind of date for awhile, I mean after she sends him back home on a bus and they meet again later at his hotel when she's there again on business (business in Kingman? WOW!), but that's plenty of time for him to fall madly in love with her.
When her ex-boyfriend, who's an ex-PUNK (played by Woody Harrelson) wants her back, Zahn ends up following her to Seattle to win her back, even parachuting into her pool to surprise her. He's really persistant and you kind of feel sorry for the guy.
I don't think there's anyone you can empathize with more than Steve Zahn. He even had me believing he was not the killer for most of this summer's A Perfect Getaway. Nice movie, and I was surprised to find out it wasn't really a chick flick.
