Review of Management (2009) by Jessica C — 11 Nov 2009
Not since Denise Richards claimed to be a Nuclear physicist have I believed less in characters. Jennifer Anniston is not the got-to person for drab woman from Baltimore who falls in love with stalker because she's got so little self-esteem.
By the ten minute mark this movie became science fiction. Zahn has his zaniness turned up so high so early that it's not a meet-cute. It's a meet creepy. Offbeat humor and sentimentality are tough things to dramatize and this director is clearly way out of his depth.
Punch-Drunk Love this ain't...I just didn't believe any of it. As this plays out, the only way Management could've justified itself or its characters would've been if in the last ten minutes it turns out both of the main characters are, in fact, serial killers.
I checked. They aren't. This one ain't worth the chuckles.
