Review of Man with a Movie Camera (1929) by Martin D — 20 May 2008
Great movie that seamlessly combines drama and documentary as a man films a day of life in a Russian city. The film's influence on modern cinema can not be underestimated - in terms of film technique it is up there with Citizen Kane.
That aside, the imagery in the film is never less than stunning (the special effects sequence with the dancing camera is magical) and Michael Nyman's new score for the movie is perfect.
