Review of Man Push Cart (2006) by Moizza K — 09 Aug 2008
Actually, it should've been called "Man *Pull" Cart," but somehow a more accurate title would've lost some of that satisfying ring. Bahrani's films have the power to transport to you not just to another time and place, but to a completely different world view.
This time, it's a struggling Pakistani immigrant who runs a push cart in New York. It's deliciously slow, non-plot-driven film, with a documentary style about it. But yes, it's fiction. And thank good, because it was the only way I could survive a story line that involves a poor little kitten dying.
