Review of Man on Wire (2008) by Tom M — 26 Aug 2011
Very well done. All the key players describe their experiences with energy and passion, and the re-enactments are convincing and fun to watch. Real footage is used very effectively as well. Lots of impressive editing, though some questionable 'effects' near the beginning when people are being introduced.
The story is fantastic. These people were slightly crazy, insanely dedicated, and highly passionate. They and their story feel alive in ways rarely captured in art or media. Alive, and very real. This is a very human story. People are either humble themselves, or humbled by the film. It doesn't pull punches and relates people's faults and failures along with their strengths and achievements. It primarily a fun watch, but at times it can be quite moving.
Definitely a must see.
