Review of Man on Wire (2008) by Chris A — 04 Dec 2011
Awe-inspiring and courageous are two words that come to mind when thinking of Man on Wire. I loved the way they blended in the new material with old videos and still pictures - it blended together very well.
The narration was also very solid; you could really feel Petit's ambition and passion in the way he spoke. But for a movie that spawned a mere 90-minute span, this film still felt way too long. I often found my mind wandering and my attention leaving the film due to boredom or distractions - it just didn't hook me.
It all felt very repetitive, and I found the lack of actual footage of Petit's most famous endeavour to be very distressing because my imagination just couldn't fill in the gaps. Maybe the content of Man on Wire is just too aged to be of interest to me or my generation, but I'd personally prefer another sitting of feature film "Milk" to a repeat viewing of this documentary.
