Review of Man on Wire (2008) by Shawn E — 20 Jan 2010
I am pretty much flabbergasted as to how this "documovie" could be rated as the #1 movie of all time on RT. If you want to hear some Frenchman babble about how he and his accomplices rigged a wire between the twin towers so he could do a tightrope walk in 1974 then this "movie" is for you. I, on the other hand, want 94 minutes of my life back. Yes, I do get all the subtext about "the triumph of humanity in what appeared to be a crazy act" blah blah but frankly, I didn't even find it to be all that moving.
Most surprisingly, this was put together in 2008. 7 years after the attacks of 9/11. They NEVER mention the attacks even in passing. The destruction of the twin towers is so far the most significant event of the 21st century. It would have been good to get an opinion about it from the man who's only achievement in life is to have tightrope walked across those towers. Especially when you made a whole movie about how he did it!?
