Review of Man on Wire (2008) by Rory K — 21 May 2010
A heist movie about the most daring acrobatic feat in the modern, or perhaps any, era. There was no heist, of course. But Phillipe Petit's plan to tightrope walk between the two newly-constructed World Trade Center towers was tantamount to the score of a lifetime.
Despite the fact that the end result of Petit's mad plan became one of the most well-documented and celebrated events in the brief history of the twin towers, the true story behind his stunt (or rather how the filmmakers deftly tell the story) leaves you breathless with anticipation.
And when he pulls it off, you can't help but smile and laugh madly with him as the hapless arm of the law tries to reign him in off his wire. Inspiring. Spellbinding. Heartstopping.
