Review of Man on Wire (2008) by Adler N — 30 Sep 2010
Dreams are fairy tales. Oh, how wrong I was.
Enthralled right from the start, it didn't matter for me when there were some parts where French was spoken. All I knew was they all had the same thing in their eyes. The sense of fear, desperation, disbelief, awe, and fear. Believe it or not, I was not for a second perturbed by what the man was trying to achieve. It was as if his whole life came to that point, the climax. If I would meet him, I would just clap, because, he hasn't only reached his dreams, he has reached million others, literally or otherwise.
Whatever happens, this may be just another documentary. But do yourself a favour, watch this. And 'walk' with him, through his 'drweam'. His fervour, along with the rest of crew, was immense. Take nothing away from the others. It's not easy planning the whole thing with Petit, let alone watch him walk. Absolutely stunning.
For someone who said, "Life should be lived at the edge", I take it that he was believable. Most people who say these things cannot be compared to what Petit has achieved. He has lived at the edge, and we must to. If not, what was the whole point of the movie? We are being wowed, and that is due to the film's impeccable driving force. It had a strong sole purpose to make sure that Petit's story is not only told, but told valiantly, and brilliantly. Spectacular stuff, ain't it?
Well, what the hell you are waiting for? We are going to live- on the wire.
Personally*... I didn't get the part at the end when he bedded a woman.
