Review of Man on the Moon (1999) by Clayton W — 20 Aug 2009
Man on the Moon is an amazing movie; Jim Carrey gives his best performance, passing even his work in Eternal Sunshine and The Truman Show. Andy Kaufman is one of the most interesting people to ever entertain; instead of going for simple laughs, he sought reactions, positive or negative.
Man on the Moon does a great job of showing all the strange stunts Kaufman pulled off through the years, even giving a nod to the notion that his death might've been faked as one final gag. The movie does a great job of mirroring Kaufman's work, making the audience wonder what really happened and what was a hoax; the first scene was also perfect for the subject matter.
Lots of laughs, but more than that, a riveting portrait of a truly unique artist.
