Review of Man on the Moon (1999) by Matthew L — 24 Nov 2009
Jim Carrey nails this performance as Andy Kaufman exactly. It is such a good match that it is scary. Very good acting by Devito and Giamatti as well. The storyline here though is all over the place. Granted it shows how eccentric Kaufman was and is loaded with all of the true life actors, but it fails in some respects to explore why Kaufman was like this.
It does a good job of exploring the Tony Clifton character and the wrestling parts and how spiritual Kaufman was but it never digs deeper. Carrey though steals the show. Courtney Love is a waste in any movie.
They should never cast her in anything.
