Review of Man on the Moon (1999) by Gena D — 22 Jun 2011
One thing I can say about this movie is if you were not a Andy Kaufman fan then you probably won't like it. It's pretty much Jim redoing all his old stunts in (for the most part) chronological order and giving you the background afterwards. Stunts like his wrestling bit or the cue card fiasco.
One failure was pretending that Carnegie Hall "Milk & Cookies" had anything to do with him having Cancer. The "Milk & Cookies" act was YEARS before he was diagnosed with cancer.
On note of the cancer haux, I don't buy into the conspiracy theory that he is still alive. Although for the first year or so I might have been suspicious given his humor. But were he still alive now and making no contact with his loved ones he'd have to be one sick mofo.
Jim definitely captured Andy in this movie, although I must admit in the end I still saw Jim. Jim is a bit of a big name to try to pull it off completely. I'd believe Jim as a fictional character but as a real person it's hard not to see Jim.
